Kids Hope USAThe idea is simple—one child, one hour, one church, one school. First Baptist Lubbock is the church. Dupre Elementary is the school. Your willingness to invest just one hour a week of your time is the one that can change the life of an at-risk student. In the latest Lubbock community assessment conducted by Buckner Children and Family Services, Inc., one of the things that community agencies want to say to church members is that “mentors are needed so kids can have a caring adult in their lives.” At Dupre Elementary there are a variety of ministry opportunities that would allow us to express the love of Christ and be the presence of God in the life of a child—volunteering to read with kids, tutoring kids in reading and math, donating physical education equipment, donating small gifts for student incentives (for attendance, good behavior, etc.), or helping to provide teacher appreciation lunches. Through the combined effort and commitment of those serving as mentors and others offering their prayerful support, First Baptist has another occasion to prove to a watching world that we truly are the fellowship of love. Our Director for Kids Hope USA is Jennifer Crews.
